The secret to my celebrated live bass drum sound which is often mistaken for triggered, but is totally acoustic:

Remo Falams Slam patch on a single ply coated batter head, with an Aquarian resonant head with built-in internal foam dampening, on a 20" drum with a bath robe inside used to muffle the batter head only. batter side tuned medium low and resonant head tuned as low as possible without the lug nuts coming undone while playing. hit with rubber beaters.
